Thunder Shutout in Portland to Finish Rough Trip

(Portland, ME) - All-Star hurler Drake Britton tossed seven shutout innings and Portland scored six early runs against Zach Nuding as the Sea Dogs blanked the Trenton Thunder, 7-0, to finish a three-game series sweep Wednesday night at Hadlock Field.

The Thunder dropped their season-high-match fifth consecutive game and finished the seven-game road trip at 1-6, falling 4.0 games behind Portland for the wild card spot in the Eastern Division. The Sea Dogs won their sixth game in a row.

Britton (7-6) scattered seven base hits, all singles, and walked three in defeating Trenton for the second time this season. Miguel Celestino threw two hitless innings to finish the shutout victory.

Nuding (2-10) allowed ten hits in four innings of work, including a double, two-run home run and an RBI single to Portland's Garin Cecchini. Cecchini's blast in the third to right field made the score 3-0, then his bloop single in the fourth capped a three-run rally to double the advantage to 6-0.

Jeremy Bleich and Danny Burawa each tossed two scoreless relief innings for Trenton behind Nuding. Slade Heathcott, Tyler Austin and Reegie Corona each collected two of the team's seven hits.

The Thunder next return to ARM & HAMMER Park for a five-game series against the rival Reading Fightin' Phils beginning Thursday night. The series begins at 7:05 pm on Independence Day, with right-hander Mikey O'Brien (5-3, 3.81) expected to start for the Thunder against lefty Jesse Biddle (3-8, 3.19).
