Stockton Thunder News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - Goaltender Kris Mayotte stopped 31 shots, and left winger Igor Gongalsky scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Fresno Falcons to a 4-1 decision over the Stockton Thunder (6-5-0, 12 pts) before a crowd of 4,381 fans at Stockton Arena on Monday night.

The loss snaps Stockton's nine-game winning streak at home in the regular season, dating back to March 14, 2007.

After trading scoring chances for the opening half of the first period, the Falcons opened the scoring at the 13:25 mark on the power-play as right-winger Josh Ciocco slid a loose puck in the Thunder goal crease past goaltender Glenn Fisher to give Fresno a 1-0 advantage. The goal was Ciocco's second on the season.

Falcons right-winger Mike Ramsay lifted Fresno to a 2-0 lead exactly three minutes later re-directing a Matt Quinn shot attempt by a sprawling Fisher as he drove towards the Thunder goal. Ramsay's first goal on the year came at the 16:25 mark of the frame.

Mayotte stopped 10 Thunder shots thru 20 minutes of play, including a flurry of Thunder offensive opportunities during the course of an early period man-advantage.

Despite a Stockton power-play to start the second period, Fresno continued to bombard the Stockton goal in the early part of the stanza while short-handed as Quinn fed defenseman Matt O'Dette on the tail-end of a 2-on-1 opportunity. Fisher turned aside O'Dette's one-timer with a cross-crease pad save to keep the Thunder within two. Fisher proceeded to turn aside Jarrett Konkle's break-away attempt as the Falcons left-winger emerged from the penalty box at the conclusion of the Thunder power-play.

Thunder left-winger Andy Contois cut the Falcons lead in half at the 7:46 mark, corralling a rebound off a David Rohlfs wrist-shot and beating Mayotte high on the glove-side to make the score 2-1. The tally was Contois' fourth of the season.

Fresno restored its two goal advantage at the 14:55 mark of the period on the power-play as right-winger Brett Hemingway converted a tape-to-tape feed from Gongalsky, beating Fisher with a one-timer stick-side for his 3rd goal of the season and a 3-1 Falcons lead.

Gongalsky capped the scoring for Fresno with an empty-net goal at 18:33 of the third period to secure a 4-1 Falcons victory. The goal was Gongalsky's 3rd of the season.

NOTES: Fisher stopped 26 shots on the night as the Thunder outshot the Falcons 32-29.
