Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, a two time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," announced that a total of 5,235 stuffed animals were collected as part of the Thunder's eighth annual "Teddy Bear Toss" game, a 4-3 overtime loss against the Utah Grizzlies on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Stockton Arena.
This year's Teddy Bear Toss game, presented by Dorfman Pacific, KAT Country 103 and News10, saw center Harrison Reed score the first of his two goals on the night just 5:14 into the first period, setting off a cascade of stuffed animals from fans in attendance.
"It was pretty exciting," Reed said. "It was a power play goal. I got a nice pass in the slot. I was pretty wide open. It was neat to see the teddy bears fly over our head as we scored."
The all time total stuffed animals collected in eight Teddy Bear Toss games now sits at over 34,200.
A total of 8,026 fans were in attendance for Teddy Bear Toss and helped contribute to a very worthwhile cause. Teddy Bear Toss seeks to collect new or gently used teddy bears or other stuffed animals and deliver them to nonprofit agencies, courtesy of United Way of San Joaquin County, throughout the San Joaquin Valley.
Volunteers, including the Lodi/Woodbridge Fire Department, Stockton Host Lions and United Way, helped collect the stuffed animals. The stuffed animals were collected and carried off the ice in vehicles courtesy of Chase Chevrolet of Stockton and Bekins Pacific Storage Company.
The Thunder's all time record in Teddy Bear Toss games is still an overall success at 4-1-3. All eight games have attracted crowds of more than 7,000, while five of those games have seen sellout crowds at Stockton Arena.
A two time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," the Thunder led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the seventh consecutive season in 2011-12. Season Tickets, Group Tickets and Mini-Plans for 2012-13 are on sale now.
