Norfolk Admirals News Release

?GLENS FALLS, NY - The Adirondack Thunder came to life in the second period to defeat the Norfolk Admirals, 5-1, Friday night, snapping their five game losing streak.

Just over halfway through the opening frame, Nick MacNeil netted his fifth of the season. Gabriel Verpaelst got the primary assist as his shot from the top of the left circle went into traffic near the crease. MacNeil camped out in front of the net where he scored the only goal for Norfolk at 10:06 in the first period.

Adirondack took control of the game, starting with just 31 seconds expired in the middle frame. Forward Greg Wolfe ignited his team, scoring his first of three goals to tie the game, 1-1. The Thunder then grabbed a 2-1 lead when Mike Bergin notched the go-ahead goal less than seven minutes later.

Near the end of the second, Samuel Noreau and Mathieu Brodeur left the ice for fighting, but Noreau also received a high sticking penalty, giving Adirondack a man advantage. With nine seconds left in the Thunder power play. and just 13 seconds left in the period, Wolfe took advantage of an unguarded Norfolk net to widen Adirondack's lead, 3-1. The period ended with the Admirals trailing and the Thunder dominating in shots, 35-16.

Frustration set in for Norfolk as Adirondack's momentum carried into the third period. Lourick Marcotte muscled in his 16th of the season early in the frame when he waited at the doorstep of Riopel's net. He received the puck from Michael Kirkpatrick from behind the net, scoring at 1:22, to make it 4-1.

Verpaelst stepped in to protect Riopel late in the third, taking issue with Marcotte's presence in the crease. He was called for roughing, fighting, and was given a ten-minute misconduct for "continuing an altercation." Head Coach, Eric Veilleux, determined that Riopel had enough in an exceptionally physical game and swapped him out for Tyler Green, who made his professional debut.

Just six seconds after Norfolk switched netminders, Wolfe was left wide open to streak toward the net and completed his natural hat trick on the power play at 15:14. Adirondack ended their four-game skid and halted the Admirals win streak in the process.

Rookie Ken Appleby stopped all but one of Norfolk's 23 attempts on net. The Admirals did not convert on any of their two man-advantages, while the Thunder capitalized on 2-of-4 power-play opportunities. ?

The Admirals continue their road trip tomorrow in Reading where they face the Royals at 7:00 p.m.

Three Stars: ?

1. ADK - #9 Greg Wolfe

2. ADK - #12 Louick Marcotte

3. ADK - #21 Peter MacArthur
