Thunder Go Quiet in 5-2 Loss

May 5, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Trenton Thunder News Release

Akron, OH - The Thunder were able to score two quick runs, but that was all the offense provided, as the Aeros routed Trenton 5-2 on Wednesday night at Canal Park. With the loss, Trenton falls to 11-15 on the year.

Trenton took the early lead in the top of the first inning off Akron LHP Ryan Edell (1-1), as they scored two runs on four hits, including RBI singles from Austin Romine and Brandon Laird. However, that would be the majority of the offense, as Trenton managed to get just two more hits the rest of the way.

Akron battled back to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Nick Weglarz scored the first run for the Aeros on a sacrifice fly by Carloes Rivero. Then, Cord Phelps hit an RBI single into left field, which would bring around Beau Mills from second base to tie the score at two.

In the sixth, Phelps knocked in the go-ahead run on an RBI triple off Thunder RHP Ryan Pope (0-3), scoring Rivero. Jared Goedert then hit a two-run home run to increase the Akron lead to 5-2.

Kerry Wood made a second rehab appearance against the Thunder, and allowed just a walk in one inning of work.

Austin Romine extended his hitting streak to 16 games in the loss.

The Thunder will wrap up their series with the Aeros on Thursday morning with a scheduled start of 10:35 AM. LHP Jeremy Bleich starts for Trenton, and Akron will go with LHP Scott Barnes.
