Thunder Fall to Erie

(Trenton, NJ)- Erie got six solid innings from starter Jon Connolly and scored all of their runs after two outs in a 4-2 win over Trenton at Waterfront Park. Trenton was held to just seven hits on the night.

The SeaWolves (55-45) grabbed the lead in the 1st Inning on a solo homer by RF Matt Joyce off Trenton starter Jason Jones. Erie then added two unearned runs in the 2nd Inning. Jones walked C Steve Torrealba with two outs and then allowed a single to 3B Nick McIntyre. An error by Thunder 1B Juan Miranda allowed a run to score for a 2-0 lead. Then, a double from CF Clete Thomas made it a 3-0 game. Jones (8-5) took the loss charged with three runs (one earned) in five innings. He walked one and struck out five.

Trenton (63-37) got a run back in the 4th Inning, assisted by an error from Erie SS Mike Hollimon, but Connolly (5-4) held the Thunder to one run over six innings for the win. He walked one and struck out two. Hollimon made it a 4-1 game with an RBI double off Gerardo Casadiego in the 6th Inning. The Thunder once again made it a two-run game at 4-2 with a run in the 8th Inning, but the SeaWolves saw 41-year old Alan Mills retired the side in order in the 9th Inning to preserve the win and earn his 12th save.

Trenton got two hits and two runs scored from SS Alberto Gonzalez, but was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position during the game.

The series continues on Tuesday at 7:05 PM. Kevin Whelan (3-0, 2.90) starts for Trenton against Erie's Andrew Kown (3-6, 3.91).
