Trenton Thunder News Release

Trenton, NJ - Five combined runs in the sixth and seventh innings allowed the Thunder to come from behind and beat the Sea Dogs 6-2 on Tuesday night at Waterfront Park. With the win, Trenton improves to 30-21 on the season.

The Thunder got off to a quick start, as they plated a run in the first inning off RHP Jeremy Kehrt. Justin Christian walked and stole second to lead off the bottom of the first and scored on an Austin Romine RBI single to give Trenton a 1-0 lead.

After setting down the lineup in order the first time around, RHP Hector Noesi allowed the first two runners to reach base in the fourth inning. The Sea Dogs took the lead with a liner off the glove of first baseman Vasquez and a sacrifice fly from Anthony Rizzo.

RHP Eammon Portice relieved Kehrt in the sixth inning for Portland and surrendered three straight singles by Trenton hitters to lead off the frame. The third hit was a run scoring single by Austin Krum to tie the game at 2-2. With runners at first and second, catcher Juan Apodaca committed a throwing error trying to pick-off Krum, and both runners would advance a base each. Brandon Laird then hit a ground ball to third base, scoring the go-ahead run from third. Another throwing error on Portland, this time on third baseman Chang, allowed Krum to come around to score from second for a 4-2 Trenton lead at the end of six innings.

Krum hit a two-run double in the seventh to increase the Thunder lead to 6-2. The Trenton outfielder finished the night 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.

Noesi (1-0) pitched six innings and allowed two runs to score on four hits and struck out four in earning his first win with Trenton.

The Thunder and Sea Dogs play the middle game of the three- game series on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM. RHP David Phelps will start for Trenton while Portland will start RHP Robert Coello.
