Trenton Thunder News Release

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder Clean Water Pledge environmental educational program concluded on Sunday afternoon as students were recognized on the field before the game for making a "Pledge" to live in a more environmentally sound way.

The Clean Water Pledge Program is a partnership between the Trenton Thunder, the Americorps New Jersey Watershed Ambassador for the Central Delaware Region, and the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC).

This year's Watershed Ambassador for the Central Delaware Region, Jason Hirst, visited local elementary schools and taught the students about reducing and preventing water pollution. At the completion of the lesson, the students were asked to take a "pledge" to conserve and protect water resources. As a reward for this commitment, they were given a form for 2 complimentary tickets to one of two spring Trenton Thunder games. The last of these games was on Sunday, May 31, 2009, where the students had the opportunity to be recognized on the field in a pre-game ceremony where they recited their pledge and were applauded by the crowd for their efforts.

Also throughout the game, Jason and Toni Heater with NJDEP's Clean Water NJ ran demonstrations and activities on the concourse and also provided information on our water resources to interested attendees.

The watershed ambassadors program is an Americorps program hosted by N.J. Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), through which corps members are placed with local agencies throughout the state of N.J. The ambassador for the Central Delaware Region is hosted by DRBC, who has hosted an ambassador since the program's inception in 2000.

The Trenton Thunder and New Jersey Watershed Ambassador partnership began prior to the 2007 season. In its first three years, thousands of students have learned about water pollution through the in-school assemblies provided free of charge by the Watershed Ambassadors Program. In addition, students and citizens were reached through participation in festivals, community days and other outreach efforts.

The NJ Watershed Ambassadors Program works with local communities throughout the state training volunteers in water monitoring as well as conducting watershed presentations. For more information about the Watershed Ambassadors Program, please visit their website at www.nj.gov/dep/watershedmgt/ambassadors_index.htm.

All Trenton Thunder tickets, including the 2009 Eastern League All-Star Game to be played in Trenton on July 15, are on sale now at www.trentonthunder.com and by calling 609-394-3300.

The Thunder have announced that all kids will eat for free at Waterfront Park all season long. All children with a ticket, ages 12 and under, will receive a voucher upon entering the ballpark good for a free hot dog, bag of potato chips, and a 12 oz. fountain soda at all 71 Thunder home games this season.

The Thunder are the only team in Minor League Baseball history at the Double A Level or below to draw over 400,000 fans for 14 consecutive seasons and have drawn over 6 million in attendance in its 15-year history.
