Three Third Period Goals Drop IceHogs

Hamilton, Ont.- A good goaltending duel turned one-sided on Friday night as the Hamilton Bulldogs were blanked by Curtis Sanford and the Hamilton Bulldogs 3-0 at Copps Coliseum.

Scoreless midway through the third period, Hamilton hopped on the board when Ryan White beat Corey Crawford on the power play. White picked up blocked a J.T. Wyman pass and broke the stalemate at 9:14.

It took the Bulldogs just 31 more seconds to tally their second goal. Tom Pyatt finished off a nice individual effort on an odd-man rush and beat a screened Crawford at 9:45 of the third period for his first of the season. Andrew Conboy finished the third period scoring when potted his first goal of the season at 15:30.

The first period featured five power plays and 30 combined shots, but no goals. Rockford went 0-3 on the advantage in the opening frame while holding the Bulldogs to 0-2. Sanford held Rockford off the board with 18 saves.

The second period was more of the same as both Crawford and Sanford were sharp in goal. Crawford was tested 16 times in the second stanza while Sanford stopped all nine Rockford shots.

Crawford and Sanford both finished with 38 saves and both teams had six power play chances with Hamilton converting the only power-play goal.

Next Home Game: Friday, Oct. 16 vs. Chicago Wolves. Game time is 7:05 p.m. After five-straight road tilts to open the 2009-10 regular season the IceHogs return home to face the Wolves. The first 5,000 fans to the game will pick up an IceHogs wall calendar from Maverick Media and 23 WIFR.
