Bridgewater, NJ- July 1, 2016 - The Bridgeport Bluefish (30-38) defeated the Somerset Patriots (36-32) 8-4 in come from behind fashion at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday night to take the opener of a three-game holiday weekend series in the Garden State. The Bluefish have now won three consecutive games while Somerset suffers their fourth straight loss. The contest also included a rain delay of one hour and 22 minutes.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Blake Beavan registered a no-decision in six innings of work, allowing just two runs on eight hits, walking on and striking out three. The right-hander notched his second consecutive quality start and his third overall in 2016. Somerset Starting Pitcher Shaun Garceau also did not factor in the game's final outcome, lasting six innings, surrendering one run on five hits, walking three and striking out six. Joseph Kuzia (3-0) was victorious out of the bullpen for the Bluefish, striking out one while not allowing a run in four batters faced. Jeremy McBryde (4-3) was tagged with the loss in relief for the Patriots, surrendering four runs (three earned runs) on three hits in one inning pitched, walking and striking out one and giving up a home run.

Somerset got on the board in the bottom half of the third inning off Beavan as Bryan LaHair drove home Aharon Eggleston with the game's first run by grounding out to second base after Eggleston opened up the frame with a single. Bridgeport answered right back against Garceau in the top half of the fourth inning as Welington Dotel began the rally with a long double to straightaway centerfield. Jose Cuevas followed right behind with a run-scoring single as Dotel crossed the plate to even the game at one, giving Cuevas his team-leading 38th run batted in of the season. Somerset regained the lead for the second time on the night in the home half of the fourth inning against Beavan. David Vidal doubled down the left field line, and advanced to third on an error by Cuevas off the bat of Carlos Guzman to put runners at the corners with nobody out. Matt Fields then lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Vidal to give the home team a 2-1 advantage.

Bridgeport came to bat in the top of the eighth inning looking to mount a comeback still trailing by a run. Endy Chavez began the rally with a single, and was lifted for pinch-runner Anthony Giansanti. Dotel reached on an error by Somerset shortstop Mycal Jones, as his team-leading 11th miscue put runners at the corners. Cuevas brought Giansanti home with a sacrifice fly, and the game was all square at two. Luis Rodriguez followed with a walk, and then Jonathan Galvez blasted his second home run in as many nights, a three-run shot to left centerfield off McBryde, giving the 'Fish their first lead of the evening at 5-2, the sixth big fly of the season for Galvez. After Somerset got back to within a run at 5-4, Bridgeport was in search of insurance, and Galvez was at it again as he laced a two-run double, plating Dotel and Cuevas to give Bridgeport an 8-4 advantage. The Bluefish register a come from behind victory for the 11th time this season and had ten or more hits in a single game for the 28th time in 2016. Galvez finished with five runs batted in, tying him for the most in a single game in 2016 with Jose Cuevas, who accomplished the feat on June 12th in a 12-6 victory over the New Britain Bees at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The Bluefish continue their seven-game, two-state road trip on Saturday Night when they play the second of a three-game set against the reigning Atlantic League of Professional Baseball Champion Somerset Patriots at TD Bank Ballpark. Bridgeport returns to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Monday, July 4th for an Independence Day matchup with the York Revolution which kicks off a three-game homestand and the second half of the 2016 regular season. First pitch is scheduled for 4:12 P.M.
