Three Points: Dynamo Return Home to Face Reigning Champs

April 20, 2018 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Houston Dynamo FC News Release

HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo are back home at BBVA Compass Stadium tomorrow afternoon to play host to the reigning Major League Soccer champions, Toronto FC, at 2 p.m. CDT. With the early afternoon start, Saturday's match is a perfect opportunity for families to come out and enjoy a day of high-quality soccer.

It's Kids Day presented by Mustang CAT on Saturday as Dynamo Diesel celebrates his birthday with all of his mascot pals, including Orbit, Clutch and Toro. The youngest Dynamo fans will have plenty of fun opportunities around the stadium, including a FREE meet-and-greet with the mascots from 1 - 1:30 p.m. at Diesel's Corner inside the stadium, and free coloring stations, balloon animals and face painters located around the concourse as well.

On the field, the Dynamo will be looking to even their season record at 2-2-2 and to snap a two-game home losing skid. Toronto has stated that they will likely play a number of reserve players on Saturday, as they are in the middle of the CONCACAF Champions League Final, a two-leg home-and-home series with C.D. Guadalajara of Mexico that concludes on Wednesday night.

GAME INFORMATION:

MATCHUP: Houston Dynamo (1-2-2; 5 pts.) vs. Toronto FC (1-3-0; 3 pts.)

TIME: 2:00 p.m. CDT

TV: KUBE Ch. 57 (LOCAL CHANNEL GUIDE)

RADIO: Sports Radio 610 AM (English); Univision Radio 1010 AM (Spanish)

HERE ARE THREE KEY POINTS YOU'LL NEED TO KNOW AS YOU PREPARE FOR SATURDAY'S MATCH:

1. TAKING ADVANTAGE OF OPPORTUNITY - As mentioned above, Toronto are likely to field a number of their second-string players due to the fact that this match falls squarely in the middle of the two-leg CONCACAF Champions League Final. Toronto are the first MLS team ever to qualify for the CCL Final and have publicly stated that they are prioritizing that over Saturday's match. This presents an opportunity for the Dynamo, as they'll likely face younger and less proven players than the ones who posted the best season in MLS history last year. Taking advantage of that opportunity will be a top priority for the Dynamo.

2. RECLAIMING HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE - In 2017, the Dynamo were dominant at home, going 12-1-4 in the regular season. They outscored their opponents by a whopping 43-17 margin at home and rode that dominance to a berth in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. They are still searching for that dominant home form this season after dropping their last two games at BBVA Compass Stadium. Getting a win on Saturday afternoon and reclaiming that home field advantage will not only be important in the short term, but over the long term as well.

3. SPECIAL EARTH DAY UNIFORMS - The Dynamo will always be "Forever Orange" at heart, but on Saturday, they'll change colors slightly as part of a special partnership between Major League Soccer and Parley For The Oceans. For the second year in a row, MLS clubs will celebrate Earth Day by wearing uniforms designed by Parley and manufactured from 100 percent recycled plastic that was reclaimed from the ocean. The uniforms are made without colored dyes in order to minimize their economic footprint, meaning that Houston's familiar orange will be traded in for all-white uniforms with charcoal accents. The special jerseys are available for purchase in the adidas Dynamo Team Store at the stadium, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit environment improvement; and Dynamo Charities will auction off the players' game-worn jerseys following the match.
