Three Players Sent to ECHL Fort Wayne from Norfolk

NORFOLK - The Anaheim Ducks, NHL parent club of the AHL's Norfolk Admirals and ECHL's Fort Wayne Komets, have reassigned forward Corey Elkins to the Komets from the Admirals. In addition, forward Luca Caputi and defenseman Nick Schaus have been returned on loan to Fort Wayne by Norfolk. The announcements were made today by Admirals Assistant General Manager Bob Ferguson.

Elkins, 6-foot-2, 220-pounds, has appeared in 24 games with the Admirals this season, netting three goals and four points. Elkins scored a hat trick on October 19th vs. Connecticut - including the game-winning goal in overtime. In 173 career AHL games between the Admirals and Manchester Monarchs, Elkins has scored 37 goals and 91 points. He has also scored five goals and 13 points in 22 career Calder Cup Playoff games with Manchester.

A 27-year-old native of West Bloomfield, Michigan, Elkins played last season in the Czech Republic with Pardubice HC, scoring six goals and 13 points in 26 games. He made his NHL debut with the Los Angeles Kings in 2009-10, scoring one goal in three games.

Elkins played four collegiate seasons with Ohio State University from 2005-09, earning 27 goals and 60 points in 102 career games. Elkins originally signed as an undrafted free agent with Los Angeles on March 31, 2009. He signed a one-year deal with Anaheim on July 9, 2012.

Caputi, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound left wing, has appeared in 12 games with the Admirals this season, netting one goal and six points. He has also netted five goals and 10 points in 10 games with Fort Wayne.

The 24-year-old native of Toronto, Ontario, has appeared in 205 career AHL games between the Admirals, Crunch, Marlies and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, posting 55 goals and 128 points. He has also played 35 career NHL games between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins, scoring three goals and nine points. In 13 career ECHL games between Fort Wayne and the Wheeling Nailers, Caputi has seven goals and 13 points.

Prior to turning pro, Caputi skated in 214 junior games with the OHL's Mississauga/Niagara IceDogs, registering 86 goals and 185 points. He was Pittsburgh's fourth-round choice (111th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Caputi signed an AHL Standard Player's Contract with Norfolk on September 21, 2012.

Schaus, 5-foot-10, 200-pounds, has appeared in eight games with Norfolk this season with nine penalty minutes and a plus-1 rating. He also has appeared in nine games with the Komets, posting four assists and four penalty minutes. At the time of his recall from Fort Wayne on November 11th, Schaus was tied for the team lead in assists by a defenseman and was tied for second in points by a defenseman.

A 26-year-old native of Orchard Park, New York, Schaus has appeared in 134 career AHL games between the Worcester Sharks and Syracuse, netting eight goals and 30 points. In 19 career ECHL games between the Komets and Elmira Jackals, Schaus has one goal and nine points.

Prior to turning professional, Schaus appeared in 148 games over four seasons at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He registered 29 goals and 83 points with 220 penalty minutes. The San Jose Sharks originally signed Schaus as an undrafted free agent on March 22, 2010. He signed an AHL Standard Player's Contract with the Admirals on September 21, 2012.
