Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

San Jose, CA - Garrett Gould enjoyed his finest start of the year and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes won for the third straight time on the road, shutting out the San Jose Giants by a final of 6-0 on Saturday evening at Municipal Stadium.

Gould scattered just three hits, all singles, facing just two batters over the minimum over his six scoreless frames. In earning his first win of the year, Gould (1-2) struck out eight without walking a batter.

The Quakes gave Gould the lead before he ever took the mound, as Casio Grider opened the game with a double, eventually scoring from third on a Noel Cuevas RBI groundout, making it 1-0.

San Jose committed a total of four errors on the night, all within the first three innings. Rancho took advantage of a pair of errors in the third, as Darnell Sweeney's misplayed ground ball plated Ryan Mount, giving Rancho a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Angelo Songco brought home Sweeney with an RBI double, taking the lead to 3-0.

The Quakes scored again in the fifth against San Jose starter Adalberto Mejia (2-1), as Songco struck again, this time with a two-out RBI single to score Sweeney again, making it 4-0.

Giants' reliever Luis Rojas walked consecutive hitters to open the sixth, with Cuevas' two-run single scoring Pratt Maynard and Scott Schebler to round out the Rancho scoring at 6-0.

Rancho's bullpen was strong again on Saturday, as Juan Noriega worked a scoreless seventh, while Craig Stem sat all six hitters he faced down to finish off the Giants for the Quakes' second shutout of the year.

The Quakes (15-14) move to within one and a half games of first place in the South Division with their third straight win overall. Ross Stripling (1-0) will take on Austin Fleet (2-0) in game three of the four-game set on Sunday at 1:00pm.

After the completion of this seven-game road trip, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Tuesday, May 7th, as they host the Inland Empire 66ers for a brief three-game series. Tuesday night is another Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday, as fans can score a free Club Seat Ticket by bringing ten CRV-eligible bottles and cans to the ballpark.
