Frisco RoughRiders News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, belted three home runs in a 10-1 win over the Corpus Christi Hooks in the second game of the series Thursday night at Whataburger Field.
Andy Ibanez hit a three-run home run off Francis Martes (5-4) in the third inning to give the Riders an early 3-0 cushion. It was Ibanez's third home run with the Riders and 10th of the season. Frisco (45-44 overall, 7-13 second half) never surrendered the lead and added seven runs of insurance in the top of the ninth inning. Ronald Guzman and Luis Marte both homered in the final frame. The RoughRiders have hit 16 home runs in the last six games.
Connor Sadzeck (9-2) tossed six innings and allowed just one run on six hits with four strikeouts. His only blemish was a solo home run by J.D. Davis in the sixth. In addition to earning his ninth win of the season, the most on the squad and tied for the most in the league, Sadzeck also turned in his team-high ninth quality start.
Luke Jackson, Jason Richman, and Jose Valdespina combined to keep the Hooks (58-32, 11-9) off the board for the final three frames. James Ramsay reached third base with just one out in the seventh, but Jackson struck out the next two batters to escape the jam and preserve the Riders' 3-1 lead. The Hooks also put two on against Valdespina in the ninth before he got out of the jam without allowing a run across. Corpus Christi went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base.
The Riders continue their four-game road series against Corpus Christi Friday at 7:05 p.m. Southpaw Victor Payano (5-6, 4.01 ERA) takes the mound against lefty Evan Grills (3-2, 3.81 ERA) in a matchup of Texas League Mid-Season All-Stars. Live coverage can be heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App.
The RoughRiders return home Sunday, July 17 for a four-game series against the San Antonio Missions at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The four-game series features Christmas in July on Sunday.
