Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox scored five runs in the sixth inning on three home runs en rout to a 7-6 victory over the Salt Lake Bees Friday in front of 8,390 fans at Security Service Field.

The Sox trailed 3-1 as they came to bat in the sixth inning, having been stymied for much of the night by Bees starter Jerome Williams (3-1, 5.85). Eric Young Jr. started the rally with a solo home run, his first of the season. On the next pitch, Dexter Fowler launched his first home run of the year deep to right field to tie the game at three apiece. Mike Jacobs followed with a walk and Joe Mather doubled him to third setting up a sacrifice fly by Mike Paulk to give the Sox their first lead of the game at 4-3. Jordan Pacheco followed with a broken-bat two-run home run to straight away center field increasing the lead to 6-3. The entire barrel of the bat flew into the Salt Lake dugout on Pacheco's blast.

The Bees would battle back with two runs in the top of the seventh on a Paul McAnulty double and a Jeff Baisley single to shrink the Sox lead to 6-5.

In the bottom of the inning, Fowler would come through again with an RBI single to increase the lead to 7-5. In the top of the eighth Tyson Auer brought the Bees to within a run again with an RBI single off of reliever Josh Roenicke.

Jim Miller came on to pitch the ninth and induced a double play ball on the way to his 13th save of the year.

Alan Johnson (3-5, 6.26) picked up the win in his first relief appearance of the season while Williams picked up his first loss. With the win the Sox improve to 39-49 while Salt Lake falls to 39-50.

The Sox will look to make it three-straight against the Bees Saturday as Edgar Gonzalez (1-3, 6.00) takes the hill against Ryan Ketchner (4-4, 4.50). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM MT.
