Indy Fuel News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - The torrid Indy Fuel climbed within one point of third place Fort Wayne in the Central Division Wednesday night as they defeated division rival Kalamazoo on the strength of a three-goal third period assault in a 5-3 triumph.

In winning their 6th consecutive game and completing a clean sweep of their 4-game home stand in 6-nights at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum, the Fuel were sparked by the line combination of Kevin Lynch, Alex Wideman and Marek Tvrdon. The triumvirate accounted for 4 of the victors' 5-goals and 8-total scoring points overall. Tvrdon led the way with his third two-goal performance of the season, including the GWG on an electrifying breakaway flight set up by Wideman at the 12:06 of the final frame.

Left wing Matt Rupert actually ignited the Fuel third period inferno at the 6:06 mark, breaking a 2-2 tie with a delayed penalty in the offing to the Wings. Wideman launched the Fuel and the game's scoring with his team-high 8th goal of the season early in the middle period at the 3:49 mark. It represented the 5th straight game in which Indy has scored the key game's FG keeping the Fuel undefeated when they achieve the feat at 7(7-0-0).

As for Tvrdon, his first goal of the night, late in the second period, knotted matters a 2-2 after Kalamazoo had rallied with goals from Tanner Sorenson and the first of a pair of strikes authored by Anthony Camara.

Head Coach Bernie John's contingent sealed the victory when center Kevin Lynch found the empty net after the Wings lifted goaltender Nick Riopel for the 6th attacker. Lynch carded a masterful +4 rating, while Wideman and defenseman Jonathan Carlson were both +3.

Jake Hildebrand posted his 5th victory in succession in goal, rejecting 27-shots, elevating his overall record to 10(7-2-1).

Reigning Sher-Wood/ECHL Player of the Week Wideman continued his torrid scoring pace, crafting 3-more points on 1-goal, 2-assists. In the process, the former Miami of Ohio and USHL Indiana Ice standout pushed his personal scoring streak to 4-games, amassing 5-goals, 5-assists, 10-points and a brilliant +10 rating.

Indy's victory was its first within its own Central Division in five such decisions.
