Mississippi RiverKings News Release

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- A three-goal third period pushed the Mississippi RiverKings over the Knoxville Ice Bears on the road as the 'Kings knocked off the Ice Bears 5-2 in Knoxville.

The Ice Bears picked up the first goal late in the first when Tyler Fernandez beat Matthew Krahn on a backhand shot in the slot to put the home-team ahead going into the first intermission.

The RiverKings dominated the stat sheet in the second period. Ian Finnerty banged home a rebound past Peter Skoggard just 14 seconds into the second period to tie the game at one. Six minutes later, Matt Harrington picked up his first goal as a member of the RiverKings after signing a three-game contract prior to Friday's game to put the 'Kings up by one heading into the third.

Early in the third, Knoxville tied it up. Tyler Fernandez tallied his second goal of the night as his shot beat Krahn over the blocker shoulder to tie the game at two at the 4:40 mark of the final frame.

But after that, the RiverKings took control. Kevin Willer tallied his second goal of the year on the power play on a rebound in the slot to put the 'Kings up 3-2. The visitors collected an insurance marker when Matt Whitehead forced a turnover in the Knoxville zone and beat Skoggard top-shelf to put the 'Kings up 4-2 with just under two minutes left to play. With Knoxville's net empty, Todd Hosmer dumped the puck from his own end, into the Ice Bears' net as the 'Kings took game one of their three-in-three weekend 5-2 in Knoxville.

Matthew Krahn (7-4-2) picked up the win as he stopped 26 of 28 shots against. Peter Skoggard (0-1-0) tallied the loss in his first game as a member of the Ice Bears, stopping 14 of 18 shots on goal.
