Three Errors Prove Costly for Kansas City

SIOUX CITY, IA - The Kansas City T-Bones could not overcome three costly errors in a 6-5 loss to the Sioux City Explores Monday night at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
In the bottom of the first inning, the first two errors would prove costly in the T-Bones 16th one run loss. Alex Blackford walked Tony Campana to start the game then Michael Lang executed a near perfect bunt, forcing Zane Chavez to throw the ball away at first to allow the runners to move up to second and third. T-Bones right fielder Chantz Mack then mishandled the ball down the right field line allowing Campana to race around from second and score with Lang going to third. Jayce Ray then hit into a slow roller fielder's choice to second to get the second run home and it was 2-0 Sioux City.
The T-Bones answered back in the top of the third, when Cedric Hunter, who was named Player of the Week for the American Association earlier in the day, hit a solo homer to right off lefty Kramer Sneed, his eighth of the year to cut it to a 2-1 lead.
The X's answered right back with a solo home run from Levon Wasington to get the two-run lead right back for Sioux City off Blackford in the bottom of the third.
In the fifth Sioux City picked up three more runs. Jayce Ray walked to start the inning off Blackford. Tyler Ogle singled then Washington was at it again with a double down the right field line to score two and it was 5-1 in favor of Sioux City. Dylan Kelly would be hit by a pitch and Eudor Garcia walked spelling the end of the night for Blackford. He would drop to (1-2) going 4.1 innings allowing eight hits and six runs with only three earned.
Myles Smith came into the game for Kansas City and struck out Joel Davis for the second out of the inning with runners on first and second. With Tony Campana at the plate T-Bones catcher Zane Chavez threw down to first to try to pick off Garcia but bounced the ball past Kevin Keyes at first allowing Kelly to score to make it 6-1. Garcia tried to score as well but was thrown at the plate for the third out of the inning. It was the third error for Kansas City.
The T-Bones would mount a comeback getting an RBI single from Chantz Mack in the sixth to make it a four-run game. Then Kansas City made the game real interesting in the seventh, when Marcus Lemon hit a towering three run home run down the right field line to cut the lead to 6-5 off Sneed. Ryan Flores came in for the X's and shut down Kansas City in the seventh and eighth retiring nine consecutive T-Bones batters. PJ Francescon worked a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up the save his 17th. Sneed saw his record improve to (6-4) giving up five earned runs on seven hits.
The loss along with a split for Fargo in a double header with Lincoln puts the T-Bones a game behind the RedHawks and tied with Gary for second in the Wild Card race for a playoff spot in the American Association with seven games left in the season.
The T-Bones face three more big games in Sioux City with the second game of the four-game series set for Tuesday night in Iowa with the game being aired on the T-Bones Broadcast Network. Kansas City will send out newly acquired right-hander Jared Mortensen (8-1, 2.57) while Sioux City will throw fellow righty Keith Picht (2-3, 3.78)
