Windsor Spitfires News Release
(Windsor, ON) - Spitfires head coach Rocky Thompson has been chosen by Hockey Canada to lead Team Canada Red at the upcoming 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Sault Ste Marie.
"I'm very excited to have my first opportunity to work with Hockey Canada. To represent my country," Thompson said.
Thompson, 38, led the Spitfires to a 40-win season in his first go-around behind the Windsor bench in 2015-16.
He says knowing both the assistant coaches he'll be working with is an added bonus.
"I saw who is going be with me on the staff and think it's great," he added. "Both guys (Mitch Love and Ryan Marsh) are Western Hockey League assistant coaches. I actually grew up with Marshy up in Quesnel, British Columbia. So there's relationships there. I think that will help us in all facets." Thompson will get started in Calgary, July 26th to August 2nd, at Hockey Canada's National Teams Summer Showcase.
"I couldn't be more excited about the opportunity. We won't disappoint." For more information, visit www.HockeyCanada.ca.
