Third-Quarter Rally Sparks Altitude Win

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Dec. 10 - The Asheville Altitude used a 19-2 run to start the third quarter en route to a 116-95 win over the Asheville Altitude in National Basketball Development League play at the Von Braun Center. Lenny Stokes and Kirk Penney combined for 16 points during the decisive run to end the Flight?s win streak at four.

The Flight took a 49-42 lead into halftime behind 11 points from Joe Shipp, and nine points each from Mengke Bateer and Ed Scott. Asheville came out with pressure defense at the start of the second half, forcing the Flight into nine third quarter turnovers. The Altitude scored 34 points in the quarter, and 74 in the second half.

Asheville made 17 of 22 free throws in the fourth quarter, including six of eight from Brandin Knight to help seal the win.

Antonio Meeking led Asheville with 29 points and six rebounds. Kirk Penney and Knight finished with 15 points apiece. Shipp finished with 23 points, and Bernard King had 17 for Huntsville.

Asheville improved to 5-4 while the Flight suffered their first home loss of the season and dropped to 4-3. The Flight are back in action Saturday night at the VBC against the Florida Flame. Asheville returns to action at home Tuesday against Florida.
