Third Period Push Not Enough as 67's Fall to Saginaw

January 24, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release

The Ottawa 67s saw their three-game win streak snapped Sunday afternoon in front of a boisterous crowd for the annual I Heart Hockey Game at the Arena at TD Place. The Barberpoles fell 3-1 to the Saginaw Spirit despite a strong push during the last half of the third period.

The 67's generated the majority of chances in the opening period out-shooting the Spirit 11-4. Jeremiah Addison hit the post and Ben Fanjoy got a puck past Saginaw goalie Evan Cormier but it was called back due to incidental contact with the goaltender. The game was scoreless after 20 minutes of play.

The Spirit finally solved Liam Herbst after 25 minutes of play taking the early second period lead. Ottawa's Stepan Falkvovsky got in his first OHL fight with former 67's Connor Brown to spark some energy and emotion for his team. Herbst proved to be the difference maker in the second period stopping 14 of 15 Saginaw shots.

The 67's generated a lot of momentum as the third period wore on and Head Coach Jeff Brown pulled Herbst for the extra skater with four minutes left in the game. Jeremiah Addison, the former Saginaw Spirit, beat goaltender Evan Cormier for his 19th goal of the season.

Saginaw would score an empty net goal to ice the 3-1 win.

The Ottawa 67's are back in action on January 29 against division rival Peterborough for a 7:00 p.m face-off at the Arena at TD Place.
