Third Period Heroics Propels Amerks Past Sharks in 4-3 Win

October 29, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release

Michal Repik scored the game-winning goal for the second straight game and the Rochester Americans rallied from a 3-1 deficit with three third-period goals en route to a 4-3 victory over the Worcester Sharks tonight at the DCU Center. The matchup was the first-ever meeting between the two teams as Rochester improved to 5-4-1-0 with its second win in as many games.

Veteran forward Chris Taylor provided a pair of goals, while Repik (1+1), Kenndal McArdle (0+2) and Bill Thomas (0+2) each chipped in with two points. Fourth-year netminder Tyler Plante earned his second win of the season in just his second start between the pipes.

Jonathan Cheechoo, Andrew Desjardins and Nick Petrecki each tallied single goals while last season's wins leader Alex Stalock turned away 22 saves in the losing effort for the Sharks.

Rochester struck first late in the opening period as Taylor notched his first goal of the season and first of the night at 16:33 to put the Amerks on top 1-0. Repik added his third point in as many games with an assist as McArdle extended his current point streak to five games with a helper as well.

The Sharks responded 4:42 into the second stanza as Cheechoo, who played six NHL seasons with Worcester's parent team in San Jose, converted on the power-play to even the game at one apiece. T.J. Trevelyan and James Marcou each tabbed assists on the play to help the Sharks to their first of three straight goals.

Dejardins gave Worcester its first lead of the night just 18 seconds into the final frame and Petrecki potted his first of the season less than two minutes later to give the Sharks a 3-1 cushion.

The lead would be short-lived, however, as Dadonov and Taylor scored back-to-back markers in a span of 127 seconds to make it a 3-3 game. Dadonov now has three goals in his last three games, while Thomas assisted on both tallies.

Repik's heroics again proved to be the deciding factor tonight, much as it did Tuesday in Abbotsford, as the third-year pro broke the 3-3 deadlock with his team-leading 12th point to seal the win for the Amerks.

The Amerks close out their season-long, cross-continental four-game road trip on Saturday, October 30th as they take on the Adirondack Phantoms for the second time in six days. The 7:00 p.m. matchup will be the second of four get-togethers this season between the intra-state rivals and will be carried live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. Rochester earned a 5-2 win over the Phantoms in the teams' most recent gathering on October 17th at The Blue Cross Arena.
