February 19, 2017 - California League (CalL1) - Inland Empire 66ers News Release

66ERS, HIT THE BOOKS PROGRAM TEAMS UP WITH THINKWISE

The Inland Empire 66ers, Class-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels and Thinkwise Federal Credit Union (FCU) have teamed up this year to put some excitement back in to everyday reading for elementary level students in the community with the Hit the Books reading program.

Every year the 66ers front office staff and beloved mascot, Bernie, visit elementary schools throughout the Inland Empire to encourage reading, but to also show that it can be exciting. Now in partnership with Thinkwise FCU, the team puts on an interactive assembly to kick off the reading program and get students excited for the challenge ahead. Each participating student receives a fun 66ers themed bookmark, where they can "round the bases" for two free 66ers ticket vouchers to be used during the upcoming season. The 66ers and Thinkwise FCU will also reward the top three schools who redeem the most ticket vouchers at the designated 66ers games. The three prizes are $1000 to third place, $1500 to second, and $2000 to the first-place school.

Last year's program had 63 participating schools and rewarded nearly 30,000 students throughout the Inland Empire for their accomplishment. The 66ers and Thinkwise FCU anticipate exceeding last year's numbers and getting more students in our community engaged in reading.

"We are very excited to further our relationship with the 66ers and the Hit the Books program," expressed the Thinkwise Federal Credit Union CEO, Kevin Posey. "Thinkwise has a strong history of supporting our education communities and look forward to helping create a culture of reading with local students." Thinkwise FCU has been serving San Bernardino schools and its employees since 1952.

The program kicked off on January 6, 2017 and will continue in to the month of March. For more information on the 66ers Hit the Books reading program sponsored by Thinkwise FCU, contact Stephanie O'Quinn at 909-495-7656 or stephanie@ie66ers.com.
