Recap of Last Week
The Road Warriors took to the road for a slate of games versus North Division teams that began on Wednesday against Toledo. The Walleye began the scoring but Greenville scored four unanswered goals to post a 4-1 victory. This snapped a five-game winless streak, the longest in team history. The Road Warriors battled in Evansville on Friday. Danny Hobbs scored twice and also in shootouts to lead the team to a victory. The team rolled on into Fort Wayne on Saturday night for a matchup with the Komets. Fort Wayne had a two-goal lead heading into the third period but goals from Hobbs and Brendan Connolly forced extra time for the second straight night. A shootout was needed to decide the game and the Road Warriors ultimately fell by a score of 4-3. The final game of the northern trip and the third game in three days was on Sunday in Kalamazoo. The Road Warriors had multiple milestones reached in the game with a 9-2 victory. It was the second time this season the Road Warriors scored nine goals in one game which is a team high. Newcomer Steve Mele scored his first professional goal and since joining the team has averaged a point per game. Trade Deadline acquisition Ben Woodley also scored his first professional with a slap shot in the slot.
Week Ahead
Greenville finishes the longest road trip of the year with a stop in Orlando to take on the Solar Bears on Wednesday and Thursday night at 7 p.m. The Road Warriors have gone 4-1-1 against Orlando. The only loss came in the last meeting with a 3-2 score in favor of the Solar Bears. The Road Warriors have played exciting third periods against Orlando. In two separate games, Marc-Olivier Vallerand scored with one second left and Sean Berkstresser scored with 10 seconds left; both forcing shootout wins for Greenville. The Road Warriors have scored 13 of their 29 goals against Orlando in the third period. Both games can be viewed via America One or by clicking the Listen Live link on the Road Warriors' homepage.
Playoff Push
The Road Warriors have moved to fifth in the Eastern Conference with the recent surge. In the South Division, the Road Warriors sit five points behind Gwinnett and have played one game less. If the playoffs were to start today, the Road Warriors would play the Florida Everblades.
Streaks and Stats
The Road Warriors tied a team high with nine goals on Sunday against Kalamazoo. Jordie Johnston is tied for ninth among rookies with 41 points. Steve Mele scored their first professional goals on Sunday and added another for a two-goal night. Lee Baldwin collected his second three-point night on Sunday with three assists.
Transactions
The Road Warriors signed two players last Wednesday. Forward Steve Mele signed an amateur tryout and forward Matt Lowry signed a contract.
