Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, NY -- After 20 games, spanning four seasons, the Utica Comets have finally earned a regulation victory against the Albany Devils. They did so in the form of a 2-1 decision Friday at Times Union Center. Albany has dominated the all-time series with a 13-0-2-0 record, including a 3-1 mark in the playoffs, heading into the contest.

Rod Pelley had the Devils' lone goal with 2:22 left in the second period. Pelley received a pass from Jan Mandat from behind the net and slid the puck off the left post and in. The goal was the captain's fourth of the season and 69th of his AHL career. Andrew MacWilliam registered the secondary assist.

Before Pelley's tally, the Comets had taken an early two-goal lead with back-to-back tallies late in the first. Andrey Pedan scored at 18:01 and Jake Virtanen followed at 19:07.

Between the pipes, Ken Appleby suffered his first loss of the season. He registered 15 saves on 17 shots in his fourth start. Across the ice, Thatcher Demko made 24 saves on 25 shots and earned First Star of the Game honors.

Albany moves to 12-7-0-1 overall, including an 8-2-0-0 home record. Utica improves to 8-11-1-0.

The two teams meet again Saturday. This time the Devils travel into Comets' territory for a 7 pm puck drop.
