The IceCaps finish up their five-game pre-Christmas road trip at 3-2-0- 0.
Getting Healthy: A pair of injured IceCaps made their return to the lineup last week: centres Patrice Cormier and Eric O'Dell. Cormier, who had missed all but three games this season, returned in Friday's win over the Hamilton Bulldogs and played in Saturday afternoon's contest in Toronto. O'Dell also drew into the lineup Saturday after missing the previous 14 games but failed to extend his four-game point streak.
F Kael Mouillierat has a five-game point streak (1G, 5A), the longest streak by an IceCap this season. Mouillierat has seven points (2G, 5 ) in just nine games with St. John's this season. The Edmonton native has also notched four points (1G, 3A) on the power play.
Goaltenders Eddie Pasquale and Mark Dekanich have been splitting netminding duties recently. Coach Keith McCambridge has alternated the pair for each of the last six contests. Pasquale's season-high for consecutive games started is six, while Dekanich's is four.
Punch from the Back End: Scoring has been at a premium for St. John's so far this season - the club is 28th in goals per game at 2.32 - but the defence corps has more than held up its end of the bargain offensively. Derek Meech leads the club with 17 points (19th in the AHL) while Zach Redmond is first on the team in goals with eight. His 84 shots are good for third in the league amongst rearguards. Three of the IceCaps top four scorers are defencemen (Meech, Redmond and Paul Postma).
A December to Forget: The month of December has not been kind to the IceCaps. The club is just 3-7-0-0, by far the worst mark of any month in its brief existence. The only other month during which St. John's finished under .500 was last April, when the team went 3-4-0-0. Last December, the IceCaps went 7-3-0-1.
