The Fatherhood Tour, Philadelphia Soul Partner to Bring Mentor Event to Sun National Bank Center

TRENTON, NJ - The Fatherhood Tour and the Philadelphia Soul partner to offer a unique mentoring experience for Trenton area youth on Saturday, June 11 at the Sun National Bank Center. The event will take place in the Club Level of the arena from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. Participants will be provided a complimentary ticket to then see the "Rock vs. Jocks" Arena Football game between the Philadelphia Soul and LA KISS which will kick-off at 3pm.
The Fatherhood Tour is a mentoring initiative created by Michael Harris, CEO of Best Sports Consultants, and Etan Thomas on behalf of the Etan Thomas Foundation. The event affords up to 150 young men the opportunity to learn about the important impact of fatherhood and mentorship through the eyes of various professional athletes and successful businessmen.
The event will include Michael Harris as the moderator, and the panel will consist of professional athletes Marques Colston, Etan Thomas and Rodney McLeod.
Marques Colston is a 10-year veteran of the National Football League and is the all-time leading receiver for the New Orleans Saints. He is also part owner of the Philadelphia Soul. Etan Thomas was 9-year veteran of the National Basketball Association where he was drafted as the 12th overall player of the 2000 NBA Draft and played for the Washington Wizards, Oklahoma City Thunder and Atlanta Hawks. Rodney McLeod is heading into his 5th season in the National Football League and recently signed a 5-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles and will be their starting safety in 2016.
"This type of interaction with young men in our community is priceless," states Marques Colston, Soul owner and Fatherhood Tour panelist. "The goal of the event is to provide these young men with information and confidence to overcome their obstacles and look forward to being a responsible father figure to their children in the future.
The topic of fatherhood and positive male mentorship is an important one, as single parent households fostered by mothers are far too common today. In a world where men have an opportunity to actively father to their children, many still choose not to be involved, contributing to these sobering statistics:
- 70% of the youths in state-operated institutions come from fatherless homes
- 63% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes
- Fatherless children are twice as likely to drop out of school
Immediately following the program, attendees will be invited to watch the Soul take on the Los Angeles Kiss in the "Rock vs. Jocks" matchup free of charge, courtesy of the Marques Colston Foundation.
"I believe our ability to couple this type of hands-on mentorship opportunity with an exciting Soul football experience will help to leave a lasting impression on these young men," said Colston.
