Texas AirHogs News Release

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - For the first time in state history, the NCAA DII Baseball Championship will be played in the state of Texas. The Ballpark in Grand Prairie will be the host site for the 2017 NCAA DII World Series in Grand Prairie, Texas. Competitive play will begin May 27 through June 3, 2017. According to the NCAA media release, the NCAA opened the bid process for the championships following an August decision by its Board of Governors to relocate events originally awarded to cities in North Carolina. The board made the decision because of the cumulative actions taken by the state concerning civil rights protections.

The Ballpark in Grand Prairie is home to the Texas AirHogs, an independent professional baseball team. "We are excited to bring such a great event to the State of Texas and the City of Grand Prairie," said AirHogs general manager, Barrett Weaver. "The NCAA DII World Series is an esteemed postseason tournament that will bring a lot of excitement to the city and local baseball fan base."

The AirHogs and the City of Grand Prairie will partner with Angelo State University, who will be the member institution for the 2017 championship. Angelo State has experience hosting the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships and numerous NCAA Regional Championships and Lone Star Conference Tournaments.
