Texas Stars Defenseman Jamie Oleksiak Named CCM/AHL Rookie of the Month
February 1, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Texas Stars News Release
CEDAR PARK, TX - The Texas Stars, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, announced today that defenseman Jamie Oleksiak has been selected as the CCM/AHL Rookie of the Month for January.
Oleksiak, 20, enjoyed a fantastic first month of the 2013 calendar year by posting 10 points (1 goal, 9 assists), a plus-11 rating and eight penalty minutes in 11 games played for Texas. The Toronto, Ontario native scored a goal in a 5-2 win vs. Peoria on Jan. 5, and then tallied an assist each in consecutive victories over Houston on Jan. 6 and Jan. 11. After drawing an assist on the winning goal at Oklahoma City on Jan. 13, Oleksiak set a personal best with three helpers in the Stars' 6-4 win at Chicago on Jan. 18, and assisted on the game-winner again as part of a two-point day at Rockford on Jan. 21.
The 6-foot-7, 254-pound defenseman missed one game for the Stars while on recall with Dallas for NHL training camp. Oleksiak represented Texas in the 2013 Dunkin' Donuts AHL All-Star Game in Providence, R.I. where he earned the game-winning assist and a plus-3 rating in the contest. Oleksiak was Dallas' first-round selection (14th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He leads all Texas Stars defensemen in scoring with 23 points (3 goals, 20 assists) in 43 contests this season. Oleksiak is expected to make his NHL debut with Dallas tonight, which would make him one of seven players in the League listed at 6-foot-7 or taller.
The Dallas Stars faceoff against the Phoenix Coyotes this Friday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 pm (TV: FOX Sports Southwest PLUS; Radio: 1310 The Ticket).
In recognition of his achievement, Oleksiak will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Stars home game. He becomes the second Texas Stars player to receive the CCM/AHL Rookie of the Month award this season, joining left wing Reilly Smith who was the league's first-year award winner for December.
Texas gets back to work following the AHL All-Star break on Friday, February 1st as they travel to Houston to square off against the Aeros at 7:05 p.m. at Toyota Center. The Stars return home on Tuesday, February 5th, for another H-E-B Night as they host the Rockford IceHogs for a 7:30 p.m. faceoff at Cedar Park Center. As part of H-E-B Night, fans may bring any H-E-B brand non-perishable food item for $5 off the gate price of a ticket on February 5th. Pro-rated full and partial 2012-13 season seat packages are on sale now. For more information on Texas Stars season tickets call (512) GO-STARS (467-8277) or visit www.TexasStarsHockey.com.
