Texas Rangers Recall RHP Clayton Blackburn

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers have recalled RHP Clayton Blackburn and OF Ryan Rua from their Triple-A affiliate, the Round Rock Express, the club announced Monday afternoon. Corresponding moves at the Triple-A level have not yet been announced.

Blackburn began the season with the Sacramento River Cats in the San Francisco Giants organization but was traded to the Rangers on April 11 for cash and INF Frandy De La Rosa. With the Express, Blackburn went 4-2 with a 4.94 ERA (34 ER/62.0 IP) in 13 appearances, including 12 starts. The Amarillo native racked up 51 strikeouts while walking just 17.

The righty has compiled a 44-33 lifetime record with a 3.44 ERA (275 ER/720.0 IP) across seven seasons. He was originally drafted by the Giants in the 16th round of the 2011 draft. Blackburn will be seeking to make his Major League debut with the Rangers. He was briefly called up by the Giants in 2016 but did not see any playing time.

Rua returns to the Rangers after opening the season on the team's roster. He posted a .202 batting average (20-99) with three home runs and 11 RBI before being optioned to Round Rock on June 16. With the E-Train, Rua batted .246 (34-138) with five homers and 17 RBI.

The Amherst, Ohio native has appeared in 200 games at the Major League level, all with the Rangers. He is a lifetime .245 hitter (129-527) with 17 home runs and 54 RBI. The Rangers selected Rua in the 17th round of the 2011 draft.

The Express continue a four-game series against the El Paso Chihuahuas tonight at Dell Diamond. Round Rock RHP David Ledbetter (2-2, 4.26) is set to take the mound against El Paso RHP Michael Kelly (3-2, 5.86). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 6:00 p.m.
