St. Lucie Mets News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Tim Tebow delivered a tie-breaking RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to help the St. Lucie Mets beat the Florida Fire Frogs 6-5 on Wednesday at First Data Field.

Reliever Johnny Magliozzi pitched the final 2.2 innings without allowing a run to get the win. He induced a double play to the first batter he faced in the seventh to get out of trouble. In the ninth he worked around a two-out single to close out the game.

The Mets completed the three-game sweep. They went 11-3 vs. the Fire Frogs this season.

Before Tebow became the hero in the eighth inning, a misplayed ball he had in left field led to Florida tying the game in the seventh. Tebow lost a ball in the lights off the bat of Anfernee Seymour to start the inning. Seymour took advantage and legged out a triple. Seymour scored two batters later on single by Ray-Patrick Didder to tie the game 5-5.

Anthony Dimino and Wuilmer Becerra hit back-to-back singles with one out in the eighth off of Chase Johnson-Mullins. That brought up Tebow, who pulled a ball into right field for a base hit. Dimino raced around third and slid home ahead of the Didder's throw to the plate to put the Mets up for good, 6-5.

Mets starter Andrew Church lasted 6.1 innings. He was tagged for 11 hits and five runs, but he gave the Mets much needed innings.

Jhoan Urena went 1 for 4 with a massive three-run homer in the third inning that put the Mets ahead 4-1. It was Urena's ninth home run of the season.

Dimino went 3 for 4 and scored twice. John Mora went 2 for 5 with a double, run and stolen base.

Didder had three hits for the Fire Frogs, including a solo home run.

Florida starter Enderson Franco gave up five runs, three earned, in 6.1 innings.

The Mets (20-26, 53-61) start a season-long eight-game road trip on Thursday. First up is a series against the Tampa Yankees. First pitch from Steinbrenner Field is 7 p.m.
