Albany Devils News Release
Last Week: Fri, 1/30 - DEVILS vs. Manchester Monarchs, L 0-3
Sat, 1/31 - DEVILS vs. Providence Bruins, L 1-5
This Week: Fri, 2/6 - Devils vs. SPRINGFIELD FALCONS, 7:30p.m.
Sun, 2/8 - DEVILS vs. Hartford Wolf Pack, 4:00p.m.
The Lowell Devils dropped both contests during their two-game weekend homestand, but remain in fifth place in the Atlantic Division. Lowell was shutout on Friday by the Manchester Monarchs, 3-0 and defeated by the Providence Bruins, 5-1, on Saturday. The Devils did, however, set a new team single-game attendance record during Saturday's match with 6,504 fans at the Tsongas Arena.
The Devils take the ice for two games this week beginning Friday on the road versus the Springfield Falcons. Lowell returns home to face the Hartford Wolf Pack on Sunday. Prior the game, the Devils will be hosting the CVS Celebrity All-Star Game at 1:00 p.m., featuring NHL Alumni. The first 1,000 fans in attendance at the CVS Celebrity All-Star Game will receive a special gift bag containing $100 worth of merchandise.
Rewind: Friday, DEVILS 0 vs. Monarchs 3 Manchester's Scott Parse scored two goals in the first 7:20 of the game and Jonathan Bernier made 33 saves to help the Monarchs blank the Devils, 3-0. The Monarchs broke a scoreless tie 1:59 into the first on Parse's first of the night and went up 2-0 five minutes later on another tally by Parse. The game wouldn't see another goal until Trevor Lewis' shorthanded empty-netter with 49.1 seconds left in regulation. Justin Azevedo and Vladimir Dravecky assisted on both of Parse's markers. Dave Caruso made 21 saves in the loss.
Saturday, DEVILS 1 vs. Bruins 5 On this night, it was Martin St. Pierre picking up two goals in the first period to lead the Bruins over the Devils, 5-1. Pascal Rheaume cut Providence's lead in half midway through the first with a 5-on-3 power play goal. Despite outshooting the Bruins 15-6 in the second period, the Devils would fall further behind after Mikko Lehtonen and Brad Marchand lit the lamp. Jeff Frazee had his three-game winning streak snapped, stopping 21-of-26.
In the Standings The Lowell Devils (22-21-1-3) suffered a setback in their quest to inch up the Atlantic Division standings, as they now sit five points behind the Portland Pirates at 25-19-1-2. A three-way tie over the weekend for first place lasted only a day as the Providence Bruins maintained their throne with 57 points (27-19-2-1). Two points behind the Bruins sit the Hartford Wolf Pack with a record of 25-18-2-3. A point separates the Worcester Sharks (26-20-0-2) from both the Wolf Pack ahead of them and the Pirates sitting in fourth place. At 19-23-0-5, the Manchester Monarchs have closed the gap between themselves and Devils to five points. The Springfield Falcons are winless in four games and remain in seventh at 16-24-6-1.
Around the Horns
Lowell had three-game winning streaks against both Manchester and Providence snapped this past weekend...Pascal Rheaume scored the Devils' only goal on Saturday in his first game back after missing 15 due to injury...Jeff Frazee has put together four winning streaks of three-games or more this season, including a club record six in a row from Nov. 21 to Dec. 3.
Coming Up
The Devils begin their week on Friday night on the road against the Springfield Falcons. The Falcons swept a home-and-home series versus the Devils two weeks ago to take a 4-3-0-0 lead in the season series. Pascal Rheaume leads all skaters in the head-to-head match-up with seven points (2g-5a) in five games. Falcons goalie Devan Dubnyk leads the AHL in minutes (2426), losses (25) and saves (1138)
The eight-game season series between Lowell and Hartford reaches the halfway point, as the Wolf Pack make their second visit of the year to the Tsongas Arena on Sunday. The Devils are undefeated in their three previous meetings against Hartford, recording one-goal victories in each game. The Wolf Pack have won three in a row thanks in part to five points (1g-4a) by Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau in his last three games.
