Taylor's Home Run Propels Bees To Shutout Victory

Davenport, IA (July 2, 2009) - The Burlington Bees defeated Quad Cities 3-0 Thursday night. Jason Taylor hit a three-run homerun while Mike Lehmann and Blaine Hardy combined to pitch a six-hit shutout. The Bees have taken two out of three from the River Bandits going into Friday's series finale.
Neither team scored a run for the first five innings. In the top of the sixth, the Bees scored the first and only runs of the game. Nick Van Stratten led the inning off with a double and moved to third on an Eric Hosmer ground-out. Nick Francis then walked to put runners on at the corners with one out. Taylor then hit his first homerun of the season to give the Bees a 3-0 lead. That was all the runs that the Bees needed for the win.
Lehmann got the start for the Bees. He pitched six shutout innings allowing just three hits and one walk. He picked up the win to move to 3-3 this season. Hardy pitched the final three innings allowing just three hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Hardy was awarded his first save of the season.
The Bees had seven hits in the game. Hosmer went 3-4. Taylor had two hits and all three of the team's RBI.
The Bees conclude the four-game series at Quad Cities on Thursday. Manauris Baez is the scheduled starter with first pitch scheduled for 6:05.
