Tavarez 5-For-5 in Portland's 10-3 Win at Richmond

Richmond, VA - Aneury Tavarez led a 14-hit attack, going a career-high 5-for-5 (3B, 2B, 3 1B), 2 RBI, leading the Portland Sea Dogs (24-43) to a 10-3 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels (26-42) on Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 9,560 at the Diamond. Portland clinched their first road-series win since last August 18-20 at Altoona.

Andrew Benintendi hit his third homer in eight games, blasting a two-run shot in the ninth off Jose Casilla. Jake Drehoff escaped a bases-loaded jam in the eighth and earned his first save of the year.

Nik Turley (1-2) relieved spot-starter Austin Maddox (4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 5 SO) and pitched 2+ innings to earn the win. Richmond's Sam Coonrod yielded 5 runs over 6.2 IP to take the loss in his Double-A debut.

Scoreless after three innings, the 'Dogs scored twice in the fourth. Cody Decker (1-for-3) knocked in the game's first run with a sac-fly. Jake Romanski added a safety-squeeze sacrifice bunt. Tavarez knocked in his first run wit a two-out triple in the fifth.

Portland scored seven times in the final three innings, picking 9 hits. Cole Sturgeon went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Wendell Rijo added a two-out RBI double in the late innings. Portland's entire lineup reached base, with 8 of 9 picking up a hit. The Sea Dogs scored six runs with two outs.

Tavarez picked up the team's first 5-hit game since Keury De La Cruz on June 27, 2014. The Sea Dogs were 0-11-2 in their last 13 road series.

The Sea Dogs and Flying Squirrels wrap-up their 3-game series on Sunday afternoon beginning at 12:05 PM. Radio coverage on the WPEI US Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network begins at 11:45 AM.
