Tally Hall Announces Retirement

WASHINGTON - United goalkeeper Tally Hall has announced his retirement from professional soccer, ending a ten-year career spanning three MLS clubs and a two-year stint in Denmark.

Hall, 31, is in the top ten among active players for almost every goalkeeping statistic, including shutouts (fourth), wins (tied for third), games played (fifth) and saves (seventh). In eight MLS seasons, he started 153 regular season matches and recorded 40 shutouts. Hall also made 15 postseason starts, with five clean sheets.

"Tally has been a tremendous presence in the locker room this year," Dave Kasper, United general manager and VP of soccer operations, said. "His leadership, especially with the younger goalkeepers, has been immensely valuable and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors."

The Washington state native is the all-time leader in Goals Against Average for the Houston Dynamo, with 1.33. He is second in the Texan club's history in shutouts, wins and saves (35, 49 and 367, respectively), while also holding single-season records for shutouts (12), wins (14) and saves (99). He made two MLS All-Star teams and started in two MLS Cup finals for the Dynamo.

In 2015, the six-foot-two goalkeeper played in 23 matches for Orlando City SC in the team's first season in MLS. After recording 73 saves and a 1.78 Goals Against Average, he was voted the club's Fans' Player of the Year.

Hall was drafted by the LA Galaxy in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft after playing at San Diego State University, where he was a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy and the program's first All-American since Marcelo Balboa in 1989. - Please refer to the club as "D.C. United" (including periods in between D and C), "the Black-and-Red" (dashes should separate the three words; "and" should be spelled out and refrain from using "&") or "United." The team should not be referred to as "the D.C. United" or "the United". One of the founding clubs of Major League Soccer in 1996, D.C. United are the most decorated team in the United States, with 13 domestic and international trophies. The Black-and-Red have won the MLS Cup four times (1996, 1997, 1999 and 2004), the Supporters' Shield four times (1997, 1999, 2006 and 2007) and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup three times (1996, 2008 and 2013).
