Taffe assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned center Jeff Taffe to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, it was announced on Thursday.

Taffe, 27, appeared in one game with Pittsburgh this season, going scoreless and minus-1. Taffe split the 2007-08 season between Pittsburgh and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, posting 12 points (5+7) in 45 games with Pittsburgh and 21 points (11+10) in 27 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He was named to the PlanetUSA squad at the 2008 Rbk AHL All-Star Classic, but did not participate due to his recall to Pittsburgh.

Originally drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the first round (30th overall) of the 200 NHL Draft, Taffe has appeared in 146 NHL games with Pittsburgh, Phoenix and the New York Rangers, recording 40 points (20+20) and 36 penalty minutes.

The 6-3, 215 pound native of Hastings, MN has appeared in 254 AHL contests, registering 178 points (85+93) with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Springfield, Utah, Hartford and San Antonio.

The Penguins return to action this Saturday night when they take on the Philadelphia Phantoms at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza. Good seats for the game are still available through all local TicketMaster outlets, by phone at 570-693-4100 and on-line at www.ticketmaster.com.
