Kansas City Monarchs News Release

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones lost their second straight to the Sioux City Explorers, 12-3, on Friday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

American Association batting leader, John Nogowski, took full advantage of the T-Bones' rocky start. The first baseman's put out allowed the Explorers to take an early 1-0 lead. Left-handed pitcher, Darin Gorski's wild pitch let multiple Sioux City players move around the bases in addition to scoring right fielder, Michael Lang. The T-Bones trailed the Explorers 2-0 going into the bottom of the first inning.

The T-Bones and Explorers began the game similarly with both teams loading the bases with no outs. Kansas City, like Sioux City, used the opportunity to their advantage. Designated hitter, Kyle Petty's RBI single scored center fielder, Omar Garcia, to cut their deficit to one. The T-Bones tied it up at two in the bottom of the first with left fielder, Joe Jackson's sacrifice fly scoring second baseman, Marcus Lemon.

This back and forth game continued to stay in the favor of Sioux City as Nogowski's RBI single in the third brought in shortstop, Nate Samson, for the 3-2 lead.

Sioux City kept full control of the game, adding three runs in the fourth inning. Samson's RBI double extended the lead to three. Nogowkski added his second RBI single of the game to score Samson, putting the Explorers up 6-2.

After a scoreless fifth and sixth inning from both teams, the Explorers got things rolling again in the seventh thanks to an error by right-handed pitcher, Zach Morgenstern, and increased their lead to five runs.

While the T-Bones couldn't muster a play, the Explorers remained on fire throughout the final innings of the game. Catcher, Dylan Kelly, launched a grand slam to right field in the eighth inning, all but securing their second straight win over Kansas City. Sioux City kept a 11-2 lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning.

The T-Bones narrowed their deficit to eight with left fielder, Joe Jackson's putout scoring Lemon, but wouldn't be able to come back any further. Instead Sioux City kept increasing their lead every opportunity they had.

Second baseman, Brandon Alvarez's putout scored Samson to put the Explorers back up by nine in the top of the ninth.

The Explorers beat the T-Bones, 12-3, for the second straight night. Cody Forsythe (3-1) tossed six innings holding the T-Bones to two runs to get the win, while the loss went to Gabe Perez (3-2) for Kansas City.

The T-Bones will continue a four game series with the Sioux City Explorers tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Come out to enjoy the post game fireworks.
