Kansas City Monarchs News Release

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A strong outing by Chris Rhoads led the Kansas City T-Bones to a 5-2 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes today, avoiding the sweep in front of 5,004 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

After a quick first inning, Neb Brown started the T-Bones half of the second with an infield single off Bear Bay and advanced to second on a throwing error by the second baseman. Brown moved to third on a flyout by Jim Fasano and scored the first run of the game on an infield single by Jacob Blackwood. Jeff Helps singled, pushing Blackwood to third before a sacrifice fly by Cody Neer gave Kansas City a 2-0 advantage.

Cody Ehlers drew a walk off Chris Rhoads to start the third and moved to second on a single by Kurt Crowell. A one-out walk to Cory Patton loaded the bases before Rhoads struck out Adam Frost for the second out. The next batter, Juan Diaz, pushed Ehlers across to cut the T-Bones lead to 2-1.

Greg Jacobs hit a two-out solo home run in the third, giving Kansas City another two-run advantage. Crowell singled to begin the fifth and scored on an RBI double by Jeff DeSmidt, bringing the Goldeyes within one.

Bay issued a two-out walk to Brown in the sixth before surrendering a two-run home run to Jim Fasano to cap the scoring on the night at 5-2.

Rhoads earned the win, allowing just two runs on five hits over seven-plus innings before giving way to Daniel Sattler following a leadoff single to begin the eighth. Sattler retired the only three batters he faced. Cotton picked up his sixth save of the season with a perfect ninth.

Bay surrendered five runs, three earned, on seven hits over six innings in the loss.

With a single to begin the T-Bones day, Aharon Eggleston extended his on-base streak to 26 games and his hit streak to 14. He finished one-for-three in the contest.

The T-Bones start a three-game weekend series against the Gary SouthShore RailCats tomorrow night. Luis Villarreal (4-3, 3.14) is slated to start game one for Kansas City opposite Tom Thornton (7-4, 5.38) and the RailCats. First pitch is set for 7:05. Single-game tickets for the T-Bones are still available and start at just $6. For more information, call 913-328-5618 or visit www.tbonesbaseball.com
