June 16, 2017 - Western Hockey League (WHL) - Seattle Thunderbirds

News Release

KENT, June 16 2017 - Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell today announced right wing Holden Katzalay has signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement with the team.

"Holden impressed at training camp last year as a camp invite and continued to improve all season," said Farwell. "He can score in tight and plays the front of the net very well on the power play. He can play both center and right wing and we expect him to make our team and develop to be a solid contributor in both ends of the ice."

Katzalay played last season with the Burnaby Winter Club Prep team in the CSSHL. He had eight goals and 12 assists in 30 games. Katzalay, who is 6'3 and 180 pounds, is from Vancouver, British Columbia.

"This is a big honor for me. The team has had a ton of success over the past few seasons and I hope to be able to contribute to continued success," said Katzalay. "I think attending the Development Camp in June helped prepare me for what is to come. I am big two way forward that can make quick, smart plays with the puck."

Katzalay was at T-Birds Training Camp prior to the 2016-17 season and took part in the T-Birds Summer Development Camp in Calgary over the first weekend in June.

By signing a WHL Standard Player Agreement, Katzalay is guaranteed a WHL Scholarship for every year he plays in the WHL. A player is able to attend any career enhancing institution of his choice, including universities, colleges, technical institutes, trade schools, or any other institution which will help the player achieve his academic and career goals.

For each season played in the WHL, a player receives a one year post-secondary scholarship, which includes: Tuition, Compulsory Fees and Required Textbooks.

The WHL provides the top young hockey talent in western Canada and the United States with the opportunity to develop their skills on the ice at the highest possible level, without compromising their academic goals. The WHL is committed to recognizing academic excellence.

Season Tickets for the WHL Champion T-Birds 2017-18 season are currently on sale. Season tickets can be purchased by calling the T-Birds office at 253-239-7825.
