Syracuse Mets News Release
Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs are excited to announce the addition of Autism Awareness day to the 2017 promotional schedule on Sunday, June 4th. The day will include on-field specialty autism jerseys with a jersey auction, lower volume for music and PA announcements for people sensitive to loud environments, silent rooms, and more.
"The Syracuse Chiefs have always been dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for all fans. We are proud to be able to provide an opportunity to enjoy the experience of Chiefs baseball in a more sensitive sensory environment," said Jason Smorol, General Manager. "I hope that we can help create some incredible new memories and provide everyone an enjoyable experience while at NBT Bank Stadium."
The Chiefs Charitable Foundation will help raise money for families affected by autism with a specialty puzzle autism jersey auction. A portion of the specialty jerseys worn on the field will be auctioned off at the stadium during the game that day and the rest will be auctioned off online.
The Chiefs will turn down the volume for all music and PA announcements during the game that day. Music and announcements will also be kept to a minimum to maintain a calmer and quieter environment. The Chiefs will also ask fans to use "spirit fingers" instead of clapping or cheering that day to keep the volume down. The Chiefs will also offer fans that need a break from the excitement the opportunity to visit a silent room. Silent rooms will be located in the conference room of the main offices and in a luxury suite. The Drivers Village Family Fun Zone will also be open for fans that enjoy a more vigorous environment.
