Swope Park Rangers Fall 3-0 to Saint Louis FC

The Swope Park Rangers fell to a 3-0 defeat at Saint Louis FC on Saturday night. First-half goals from Schillo Tshuma and Chad Bond put Saint Louis in a commanding position before the Rangers' Oumar Ballo was sent off after receiving a second yellow card in first-half stoppage time. Irvin Herrera added a third early in the second half before Bond was also ejected in the closing stages.

The Rangers began the game brightly and threatened in the second minute, when Johnny Grant, who was making his first start for the club, glided past several challenges and fired the ball across the face of goal but no SPR forward was able to turn it home.

Saint Louis took the lead in the 11th minute, when Richard Dixon whipped in a cross from the right that caused confusion in the Rangers area and Schillo Tshuma was on hand to fire into the roof of the net.

SPR responded well to falling behind and Pasher saw a shot saved from close range in the 21st minute and from the ensuing corner, Oumar Ballo headed against the crossbar. Six minutes later, Kevin Oliveira curled a free kick on frame but Saint Louis goalkeeper Mark Pais was equal to it and tipped the ball out for a corner.

In the 39th minute, referee Luigi Lazareno, who was refereeing his first-ever professional game, awarded Saint Louis a free kick on the edge of the Rangers area after what looked like a foul against the home team. Chad Bond stepped up and curled a stunning free kick over the wall and into the corner to make the score 2-0.

As the game ticked into first-half stoppage time, Oumar Ballo was adjudged to have committed a foul with a shoulder-to-shoulder challenge and was shown his second yellow card after being booked in the 17th minute, reducing the Rangers to 10 men for the second half.

Shortly after the break, Saint Louis added their third goal after Bond clipped a ball over the Rangers defense toward Irvin Herrera, and as Jon Kempin rushed out of his goal, the forward headed the ball over the SPR goalkeeper and into the net.

The third goal seemed to spur the Rangers into life, with the side creating a slew of chances for the remainder of the half. Christian Duke and Kris Tyrpak each saw efforts parried out for a corner by Pais, while Tomas Granitto looked to have pulled a goal back for the Rangers but his header was tipped onto the underside of the bar and off the line.

Tyrpak threatened again in the 65th minute when he curled an effort over Pais but just wide, with the Rangers shifting to a three-man backline in an attempt to produce more offense.

In the 79th minute, Bond was given his marching orders after dragging back Oliveira on a break, with the Welsh midfielder booked for a heavy challenge on Granitto late in the first half. Sixteen-year-old Sporting KC Academy product Jaylin Lindsey, who just signed with the Rangers on Friday made his debut in the closing stages, replacing Ualefi in the 85th minute as SPR slipped to their third straight defeat.
