Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release

Colorado Springs, CO - The Switchbacks officially announced today the signing of Uriel Macias, who participated in the club's open tryouts that took place two weeks ago.

Macias most recently played for IUPUI where he led the Jaguars in goals (4), points (9), and shot attempts (29) in his final season. Macias played a total of 53 games for the Jaguars, starting 45 of them while scoring 15 times and adding 4 assists in his collegiate career. As a freshman, Macias received the Summit League's Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Summit League in addition to being named Summit League Freshman of the Year.

"He [Macias] really stood out to us at tryouts," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "We brought him in for training last week where he did very well. As he gets up to our speed of play and level, he's going to be a great and versatile player for us this year."

"I'm very excited to have signed my first professional contract," said Macias. "I'm glad to be a part of the Switchbacks organization, and I'm looking forward to helping the team strive for a championship this year."

Macias joins a number of other players who have successfully signed professional contracts after participating in the Switchbacks' annual open tryouts. Last year, Jack Jones was the success story of the tryouts, playing in nine league matches scoring once and adding an assist.

The Switchbacks will kick their 2018 USL campaign on March 17 as they host LA Galaxy II at 6:00 PM at Weidner Field for St. Paddy's day celebration with fireworks and $1 beer the first 30 minutes after gates open at 5:00 PM. Tickets start at just $12.
