June 25, 2007 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Slugging first baseman Tim Dorn was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday and assigned to the Swing of the Quad Cities, helping to fill the void left behind by the promotions of All-Stars Brandon Buckman and P.J. Walters over the All-Star break.

Dorn, a former pitcher who has resurrected his career as a first baseman, was hitting a blistering .344 for the Southern Illinois Miners of the independent Frontier League through 31 games this season. The 24-year-old also slugged 12 home runs and drove in 34 with the Miners, adding 32 runs scored in just his second season as a position player. Dorn, a 6-foot-8, 245-pounder, spent 2006 with the Pensacola Pelicans of the independent American Association, batting .327 with 10 homers, 43 RBI, and 24 doubles.

The California native's professional career began in 2003, when he was selected by the Seattle Mariners as a pitcher in the 14th round of the 2003 draft. He spent the 2003 and 2004 seasons in the Rookie level Arizona League, going 0-0 with a 6.83 ERA over 19 appearances before being released during spring training of 2005. He did not play professionally during the 2005 season.

The Swing of the Quad Cities roster currently stands at 24 active players, one shy of the maximum allowed by the Midwest League. An updated roster accompanies this release.
