Walla Walla Sweets News Release

WALLA WALLA, Wash - The Walla Walla Sweets welcomed in three new position players on Friday morning. All hailing from Long Beach State, they will be sure to have a great impact on this team as they continue their quest for a championship in 2016. Welcome Alex Muzzi, Chris Fife and Jarren Duran to Walla Walla.

Alex Muzzi, an outfielder who transferred to LBSU from Sacramento City College, will head to Walla Walla after his first spring with the Dirtbags. In his first season at SCC, he hit .280 with one home run and 27 RBIs while stealing five bases.

"I have many friends who have played in the WCL and I look forward to the competition and experiences to come," Muzzi said. "This summer I want to get better to prepare for next season and win the WCL with the Sweets."

Chris Fife, a 5-foot 11-inch, 150-pound outfielder, graduated last year from Pacific Grove High School in Monterey, CA. He was an All-County selection during his junior campaign as he hit .366 with 13 RBIs and nine doubles. He brings in a winning attitude as he helped PGHS to back-to-back championships his first two years, including an undefeated season his sophomore season.

"I was really excited to be given the opportunity to come play with the Sweets," Fife said. "I was told they are a very good program and is a great environment to be around. I'm also very excited to play in the WCL. I know it is one of the best leagues on the west coast and is filled with great competition. As a team, I hope to have a great, winning season and make it as far as we can. Personally, I would love to take my game to the next level, compete hard, and prepare myself for when I get back to school."

Jarren Duran, a 6-foot 1-inch, 185-pound second baseman, hails out of Cypress, CA. He is known for his speed and led his Cypress High School team triples his senior year. He will join the Sweets after finishing his freshman year with the Dirtbags of LBSU.

"I'm looking forward to becoming a better player individually and a teammate," Duran said.

"LBSU is an excellent baseball program and we are fortunate to work with them every year," said Sweets general manager Katie Biagi. "We look forward to welcoming these three players to Walla Walla this season."

The Walla Walla Sweets will open the 2016 season of WCL baseball in June of 2016. Season tickets are on sale now. For more information about these and other ticketing options visit wallawallasweets.com, stop by the Sweets Shoppe in downtown Walla Walla, or call 509.522.BALL (2255).
