Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

YESTERDAY: The RailRiders shook off a Tuesday night loss to Louisville by bouncing the Bats on Wednesday afternoon at PNC Field, 7-1. The win clinched the season series for the RailRiders against the Bats. SWB is 4-2 against the Cincinnati Reds' top affiliate and 9-3 versus the IL West overall.

I'M JUST A CAVE MAN: Jake Cave singled and scored. Over his 13 games with SWB this season he has gone 18-for-51 with 10 extra-base hits, eight RBIs and 12 runs scored, slashing .353/.365/.686/1.052 with just eight strikeouts. He has played either center or left field in each game and has yet to make an error with SWB this season. Including his time at the start of this season with Double-A Trenton, Cave has clubbed six triples to tie him for fourth in all of MiLB. Advanced-A Tampa's Jorge Mateo co-leads the minors with eight three-baggers. Former RailRider Rob Segedin, now with the Dodgers' Triple-A team in Oklahoma City, also has six triples.

HAIL CESAR!: Cesar Puello singled and scored on a 1-for-3 day. He also received his team-high eighth bruise of the year. Only Louisville's Jermaine Curtis (9), who leads the IL in OBP (.442), has been hit by more pitches at Triple-A. In 24 games with SWB Puello has gone 21-for-69, slashing .304/.462/.464/.925 with seven extra-base hits and 12 RBIs. He has walked 13 times.

THE COKE SIDE OF LIFE: Phil Coke (3-0) joined Conor Mullee as the only 2016 RailRiders to win three straight decisions thus far. Coke whiffed four and walked none over five innings, allowing his first earned run as a RailRider. In three games/two starts, Coke has struck out 12 while walking two in a dozen innings while amassing a 0.75 ERA.

PARM CHARM: Chris Parmelee bashed a three-run homer that set the tone in the opening inning. He started the season in a 2-for-26 (.077) funk, both singles, with 10 strikeouts and just one RBI. Since then he has hit .287 (29-for-101) with six homers and 17 RBIs over 28 games. Half of the homers and eight of his RBIs have come over four games played against Louisville.

NO PLACE LIKE...THE ROAD?: The Bats have some of the IL's more extreme home-road splits. In 22 games at Louisville Slugger Field, the club is hitting .238, slugging just .285 with a pair of homers while averaging 2.77 runs/game. In 23 games away from Louisville, the team has hit .281, slugging .400 with 16 homers while averaging 4.52 runs/game. The enigmatic team ranks among the IL's best overall in on-base percentage (2nd, .337). But the home power woes weigh down the club's totals, ranking it among the IL's worst in slugging (2nd-worst, .345) and homers (last, 18). The lack of pop also results in a league-high 20 sacrifices.

KINGS OF THE NORTH: The defending division champion RailRiders entered today in sole possession of first place in the North, tied in the loss column with Rochester and Syracuse. SWB outright leads the IL in wins. Al Pedrique's team has won 10 of its last 13.

HOMEBOYS: SWB has wins in five of its last six in Moosic and 14 overall victories at PNC Field on the season. Only Columbus (15) has more home wins than the RailRiders this season.

OFF THE RAILS: The RailRiders have seen their foes steal just 21 bases on 31 attempts...Both numbers are trumped only by behind Lehigh Valley at league-low marks of 20 and 28...Eddy Rodriguez was charged with his second passed ball of the season...The paid crowd of 10,000 made for the team's second sellout of the year...SWB's pitching staff trails only Indianapolis for the league lead in ERA (2.87-2.83) and WHIP (1.199-1.164)...Tommy Phelps' hurlers also rank among the IL's best in K/9IP (3rd, 8.2), K:BB ratio (2.75:1) and saves (T-4th, 13).
