Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

Florence, S.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs (9-6) dropped a late-inning, 4-3 thriller to the Coastal Plain League's West-Division leading Florence RedWolves.

Matt Morrow (Wright State) started the game off with some speed, scoring from third on a wild pitch in the 2nd inning, giving the Dogs a 1-0 lead.

After the RedWolves managed to scrape across three runs, the SwampDogs flexed their muscle once again on a Florence wild pitch out of the right-hand of Bryan Quillens (Eastern Kentucky), Andrew Henrickson (East Carolina) swiped home to cut the deficit to one. The Fayetteville bats weren't done in the 5th, as Juwan Burney (Delta State) singled to right allowing Morrow to score for the second time on the evening.

Matt Acosta (Cal State Northridge) made his SwampDogs debut at Cormell Field, striking out 6 and allowing just 3 runs to the West-division leading RedWolves offense in 5 innings of work.

The Dogs would leave the bases loaded in the 6th, following a fiery ejection of Florence's Head Coach Travis Graves (Eastfield College). Justice Sampson (NC Central) entered from the bullpen in the bottom-half of the inning, holding court and retiring four RedWolves before departing with the bases left empty for Jacob McCort (NC Central) in the 7th. McCort would strikeout the first batter he faced from the bullpen, before inducing an infield pop-up to retire the side.

The RedWolves took a 4-3 lead following a fielding error by Jameel Edney. With the 9th inning proving fruitless for the SwampDogs, despite putting a runner on 2nd with two outs in the inning.

Sean Tweedy (1-0) (Southern Mississippi) earned the win, while Ryan Holloway (0-1)(Air Force) was tacked with the loss despite his run given up being unearned. Jack Henry Beasley picked up his 4th save of the season.

The SwampDogs return to The Swamp on Sunday for Father's Day at the ballpark. First pitch is at a special time with the gates opening at 4:00 and first pitch at 5:05. After the game, father's are encouraged to play catch with their kids on the SwampDog's home field.
