SwampDogs Snap Streaks Versus Wilmington

July 8, 2016 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

WILMINGTON, N.C.--Nick Yobbi sileneced a red-hot offense for seven and two thirds innings while Michael Austin slammed the door shut as the Fayetteville SwampDogs beat the Wilmington Sharks 2-1 Friday night.

The win is the first of the second half for the SwampDogs and it snaps a six game losing skid. The loss was the first for Wilmington in the second half, snapping a five game win streak.

Yobbi was the primary reason for the change in directions of both teams, inducing a lot of contact that kept his defense active and involved. Yobbi only struck out three of his 23 outs recorded and received defensive backing from second baseman Kieton Rivers who made a trio of outstanding plays.

Still, Yobbi exited with two outs in the eighth inning, needing his team to pick him up. Austin came on with the tying run on third base and the go-ahead run on first, getting a sly ball to left field that appeared to be falling in for a hit before a full speed, diving catch by left fielder Dan Leckie ended the threat.

Austin worked a scoreless ninth for his first save.
