December 9, 2013 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain) - Fayetteville SwampDogs
The Fayetteville SwampDogs have announced the hiring of Joe Vasile as the team's Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the 2014 season.
Vasile, a New Jersey native, will graduate in December from The College of New Jersey in Ewing, N.J. with a degree in Radio/TV/Film Communcation. Last summer, Vasile worked as a Media and Public Relations intern with the Rockland Boulders of the independent Can-Am League. He also served as a studio host and game engineer for the Trenton Thunder, the AA affiliate of the New York Yankees, and was a counselor at the Play-By-Play Scholastic Broadcasting Camps.
Vasile's broadcasting resume includes serving for the last three seasons as the lead play-by-play voice for TCNJ men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball. For the past two seasons, he has served as the lead play-by-play voice of Widener University football, and has filled in on Widener baseball broadcasts.
For the past two years, Vasile has held the position of Sports Director at Lions Television, the student television station for TCNJ, where he was in charge of producing all sports content. He also served as the Assistant Sports Director at WTSR, the school's radio station for three years.
"I'm very excited to be joining the SwampDogs organization," Vasile said. "I think that there's a lot of potential to do some really special things this year."
In addition to the broadcasting, Vasile is also a sportswriter, and contributes weekly articles to two New York sports blogs.
Vasile will broadcast all SwampDogs home games on the internet on Coastal Plain League's WebPass, and handle updating the team's website and producing video content for the SwampDogs.
"We look for Joe to continue the tradition of tremendous broadcasters for the SwampDogs," said SwampDogs general manager Jeremy Aagard. "His passion for the sport and enthusiasm will create a great experience for our listeners across the country. We're excited for Joe to bring some new elements to "The Swamp", as well. Our fans are in store for the best summer yet in 2014!"
