Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced the club has signed forward Trevor Gerling for the 2016-17 season.
Gerling, 25, spent all of last season with the Edinburgh Capitals of the Elite Hockey League in Edinburgh, Scotland and established himself as a strong scoring threat. He led the team in goals (27), assists (34) and points (61) and also collected 42 penalty minutes in 59 games.
"Trevor is a high energy player that brings excellent effort at both ends of the ice," Head Coach Brian Gratz said. "He has a strong skill set that will bring a good offensive presence to the team."
A native of Seattle, Washington, Gerling turned pro with Elmira near the end of the 2014-15 campaign, recording six points (1g, 5a) and four penalty minutes in nine contests. Previously, the 6'0, 200-pounder played four seasons of collegiate hockey at the University of Connecticut from 2011-15. He notched 64 points (33g, 31a) and 58 penalty minutes in 124 games, including 11 goals and 18 points during his senior season - both second-highest totals on the club.
"I couldn't be happier to sign with Greenville and have the opportunity to play for such a top-notch organization," Gerling said. "I've heard great things about the city, arena and most importantly, the fans. I've also spoken to Coach Gratz several times and I feel comfortable with the direction the club is headed."
Prior to his college career, Gerling played three seasons in the junior ranks with the Langley Chiefs of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). He served as team captain during the 2010-11 campaign and was honored by the Chiefs as both the club's Co-MVP and the Community Player of the Year that season.
