Surge Hockey Operations to Suspend Indefinitely

May 2, 2014 - SPHL (SPHL)
Mississippi Surge News Release

After five years on the gulf coast, the Mississippi Surge will indefinitely suspend hockey operations effective today.

The decision comes after several weeks of searching for alternative options with hopes of keeping hockey in South Mississippi. "We have done everything we can to keep hockey here." Local Owner Jimmy Hodge said.

A steady but steep decline in revenue over the past five years effectively forced team ownership into the unfortunate position of indefinite suspension, but there is still hope for die hard hockey fans on the coast. "Biloxi is a great place with great hockey fans," Surge Owner Tim Kerr said, "We are still seeking opportunities for the following year, and if the right situation arises, hockey could return to Biloxi."

The Surge Front Office would like to thank everyone who supported the team this season, and if the team were to return in the years to come, there's no doubt it would return bigger and better than ever.

The Mississippi Surge are a professional hockey organization in the Southern Professional Hockey League. To learn more about the team, league, schedule or corporate partnership opportunities, contact the staff at (228) 594-3800 or log on to www.mssurge.com.
